No, Mom, I Didn’t Lie!

I scanned the comments here and realized that at least 7 of you were wondering about that mention of reading 282 blogs. Actually, i thought nothing of it, until tonight I was talking with my mother. And would you like to know what she said…?

"So, do you really read all those blogs, or is that just a number you threw out there?"

EXCUSE ME?

That was my OWN MOTHER questioning that claim? I realized then and there a follow up post was indeed necessary.

So…. blogging secrets revealed:

I use bloglines. I’m considering making it public, as a blogroll of sorts, but I shudder at the hours of repetitive clicking that would involve.

There are indeed 282 blogs in there. It’s about 90% Mommy Blogs, 10% Other.

I have a mental ‘shortlist’ of about 15 blogs that i check very often and would not ever miss a post on, ever. Most are blogs that I found immediately upon my arrival in BlogLand. I’ve admired them publicly before, but a few that come to mind:

The Geekwif

Jeana

Carol

Lauren

Mary

Heather Ivester

Faith

Shannon

Heth

(In my mind, Shannon and Heth are as inseparable as the washer and dryer in my laundry room. Shannon’s the dryer. Duh. Heth is the washing machine.)

Julie Carobini

Yellow Mama Real Life Friend!

GiBee

Used to be here: Corina. I left comment after comment on her abandoned blog, asking if she was okay. Actually, I joked about checking the obituaries since she’s been gone for months without explanation. Then I remembered she’s a POLICE OFFICER, and that was a DUMB JOKE, and then I really did google the Springfield obituaries, but she wasn’t there, and she’s ok. I found her email address. She’s working crazy hours.

And yes, I did leave a few off that list. A ton of others I email regularly back and forth with great consistency and little maturity. You know who you are.

All blogs I visit out of sheer joy. I do not keep any kind of mental tabs on who visits mine or comments or who doesn’t. I don’t care, and if I did I’d drive myself nuts.

Repeating: I don’t visit any blog out of a sense of obligation, because this is what i do for fun.

I visit all the blogs on my bloglines about once a week, week and a half. I sometimes read all the posts I’ve missed, but usually not. A lot of times I read a few posts, but comment once.

Do y’all really care? Is this getting lame? Because I could tell you in more detail about how horrifying it is to think you’ve made an insensitive joke about a police officer blogger friend being dead and then not knowing if it were true… gah. Can’t believe I did that.

Bombshell Secret:

I don’t blog when I’m on child duty. In fact, my kids have no idea I blog. I don’t do it when they’re awake. I have a blog session in the afternoon during naptime (Ethan-6yr does Quiet Time), and then not again until after they’re all asleep. (Seth-8mth knows what I do, but so far he’s kept it quiet.)  If I allowed it, this blog stuff would totally take over my Mom/Kids time, and I don’t want to go there. They deserve so much more from me.

Ha! Did y’all buy that load? Seriously, it’s never once been tempting to try to blog while diapering kids or breaking up fights or just being a mom. I have no delusions about being capable of doing both at the same time without losing my mind, or I surely would.

There you have it. My blogging secrets revealed.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be in my room since I have a lot of reading to do, Mother.

Honest!

~hm

Oh my — 282! You weren’t kidding. My head begins to swim after I read more than five at one sitting. I laugh, I cry — and I WORRY. If anybody blogs about something disturbing going on in their life, I start to really WORRY. Though often my worry turns to prayer. For example, I’m praying for someone named Minnie, who I don’t even know, but who has been blogging about her health issues.

Can you even imagine what God has to deal with every day? And yet He takes the time to “comment” personally to each of us. Even more than 282! :)

Wow! 282 blogs! That’s insane. I, too, TRY to only blog while my child is asleep (early, early morning) or after she goes to bed but I’m not always successful. Opps!

I think you have a healthy perspective on blogging! If you read all 282 every day, I’d be concerned. You’re a great mama who has her priorities straight. Now where is that kid of mine…? (only kidding…he’s napping!) Have a great weekend!

Ok, good, the kids are still asleep. You are starting to convict me. I do blog while the kids are running around and fighting and whatever else they do, who knows now! I used to do it while they were in school but now they are out and, well, I just do it!
So, maybe not so much anymore! But I still can’t believe 282, I have a hard time getting around to my 40something on my bloglines.

LOL…I’m SO honored to be on your list (and to be grouped inseperably w/ Heth). You’re on mine, too.

I am beyond impressed that your kids don’t know you blog. Mine know it allllll too well. As I write this my seven year old is standing on the coffee table shooting suction arrows across the living room…all because I’m not in there to stop him! :)

Okay, I was just wondering…

I’m just like, Wow! I’m on the short list. That is amazingly better than getting the short end of the stick. Or being had by the short hairs. Or getting short-changed. It may even be better than being short, although I think being short probably does have its advantages. Unless you’re a cop, maybe. Or a bass player.

Is it naptime yet?

HolyMama!, It sounds like you have the right attitude towards blogging AND raising kids. Mine is 18 and going to college soon, so I am pretty much free to blog without worrying about her. I do however have a hubby who comes up behind me here in the puter chair and asks, woefully, “Is there any chance of you cooking a hot meal anytime soon, or do I need to eat a boloney sandwich….again?” Well, that’s only happened a time or two, honestly!

I do have to prioritize my time on here. I’m getting better than when I was first afflicted with the blogging bug. I am thinking about subscribing to bloglines, but didn’t know how complicated it is to sign up and get it going. I wondered about blogrolling, too, but haven’t asked anybody about how hard it is to get off the ground, either.

And I did believe you about the number of blogs you visit, because I know you visit lil’ ol’ me, but I wondered where you found the time. I just figured you never slept, just absorbed energy from Cheetos and Diet Coke, LOL. ;-)

You are more disciplined about not letting this get into mommy time. Thanks for the kick and by the way…you are on my last post. If you want to kill me…you know where I live.

Wow. 282 bloglines and you have the time to leave comments on mine??? I am soooo honored. Really and truly!

Love reading your blog, thanks for convicting me about when I choose to blog and “surf”…. I really need to set time limits for myself!

Another truly honored blogger here but I feel the same way about reading you.

Now, I completely believed that you read 282 blogs I just can’t understand how that can be done. I am coming to the conclusion that I am one extremely slow reader!!!!

That is cracking me up. No wonder I only get a couple comments every time. I only check about 15 blogs a day. Plus, you’re super funny and I love your blog, even if you do only pop over every couple weeks : )

Lauren’s been great to me on my blog!!

And here I thought I was addicted to blogging and reading it! I’m not even close compares to you, but I’m still addicted, according to my hubbie.

I’m with you there about leaving a comment, I read the blogs and if I like what I read, I’ll leave a comment but don’t expect a reciprocal comment.

Glad to have found you via “blogging chicks”!

Ps: I’ve learned not to tell my parents about my blog any more.

Well I, one of the original 7 I believe, am glad you cleared that up.

Now that my kids are older, it’s not kid time I have to worry about. I have often wondered if all you ladies’ husbands were pining away for you during your blogging time. But, then, leave it to me to be different.

cause I’m,

a blogger who sees her husband on his lunch everyday.

Wow! 282… that’s is a lot. I was thinking my 50 or so was a lot! One blogger asked how we have time for all this… she felt like it was almost like a fulltime job… I disagree… it is a view into other people’s lives who have the same struggles and great wisdom to share.

I use BlogLines too – and currently subscribe to 218 blogs – yours is one of them. I read through the updated ones daily.

I always add blogs that have posts I enjoy to my BlogLines subscriptions. I also always add the blog of everyone who comments on my blog to my BlogLines subscriptions so that I can continue to visit them and comment on their blogs.

Okay, well you remind me of how I need to be more balanced in my blogging outlook. I think I’ve let it absorb me a little too much. But hey, I love to write when it doesn’t involve my sicko handwriting and when there is an audience as well that laughs at me. Yeah, I’m not balanced. I know. But I am back to being a better mother now that I have cut my addiction to this thing down! Are you proud?

I can’t even imagine how you manage to keep track of that many blogs! I love it when you comment on something I wrote, and value it all the more now that I know you don’t let blogging cut into your mommy time. If I check yours more than two days in a row and you haven’t posted, I start to get withdrawal symptoms!

I mentioned to my mom about “a blog that I read” and got back a “well…” (I know that when a sentence starts with “well” she’s going to get on me about something) “I don’t know how you have time to read all those things”.

Anyway…my mom doesn’t read my blog and that’s ok.

Wow, I thought I was bad…I have 85 on my bloglines and I am trying to catch up on them today..i had over 300 new posts to catch up on! I’m down to 183 new posts..

I feel like I know everyone on my blogroll and bloglines personally too…isn’t it funny!

Works for me!

The little one is napping and the oldest is away on a trip with my mother-in-law so I’m a good momma today…I did, however, find the little one sitting on the coffee table trying to turn the light on and off today though, and her eggs from breakfast were scattered all over the carpet(and we’re in the same room for goodness sakes!)…and she did come pinch me once…hmmmm….I need to follow your example!!

I love your blog!
