I’ve blogged for almost a year now. you might think that religion, politics or sex posts would get the blogosphere all up in my grill. and you’d be wrong. but you know what WILL? musical taste.
i don’t know much about music. I don’t really care too much about music – i’m just not like that. i’m fascinated by words and writing – music, not so much. but i am pretty sure that it’s ok if i don’t like elton john. sure. i CAN say that. I DON’T LIKE HIM. heh heh. now that’s some strong language right there. ooooh. i like those words.
in the last post my language was not even that strong, and it got me on a few of elton’s fan websites, where those loyal to elton talked about how i must be lost, lonely, and unintelligent. no, not kidding. isn’t that funny? all you have to do is articulate your a few opinions toward certain artists, and BAM! the web wakes up and gets all offended. i find that fascinating. i think i’ll toy with it a bit. indulge me.
i don’t like elton, i don’t like elton, nah nah nah nah nah nah. i don’t want to listen to any more of his stuff. not the new stuff. not the old stuff. not the disney stuff. not any of it. ha!
hmmm…. i don’t like…. madonna. i really don’t. i do not like madonna. nah nah nah nah. i hate the madonna on a cross crap she’s doing in her shows, too – kinda the last straw for me.
you know who else…? sting. i don’t get him.
Who else? Jessica Simpson. Don’t like her. I don’t think she can sing, and she’s frighteningly pretty.
and kenny chesney. don’t like him. i think he’s in love with his own arms. what is up with that? i just think the man could use the benefit of a sleeve every once in awhile.
there we go.
freedom of speech is a beautiful thing.

11:50 pm
You get ‘em, HM.
12:28 am
You’re cracking me up!
6:30 am
EVERYBODY REMAIN CALM. I was totally with you until you crossed the line with Sting. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic? Message in a Bottle? The Police?
Wait, I just realized you were talking about a sting from a wasp. Yeah, they hurt. Ssh, no don’t say anything. If anyone needs me I’ll be in denial. (Covering my ears and singing LALALALA)
7:25 am
Too funny. Can’t wait to see what pops up on the internet b/c of this post. Let us know, will ya!?
7:39 am
I hate all those guys too. ha
7:42 am
Yeah I can totally see the Kenny chesney thing. But Alan Jackson…oh my word. Love that guy, how he sings, and how he writes.
7:57 am
I’m with you on all of them. And I am going to drop my own bomb. I don’t like U2. Everyone does, but not me.
8:24 am
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait……
You don’t like Jessica?
I think my heart just shattered.
8:25 am
O.k….now I’m getting ready to cover your back….after this post…you’re gonna need all the help you can get!
Diane
8:36 am
You Go Girl!!! I’m with you pretty much all the way there, especially where Madonna is concerned. And Kenny Chesney seriously needs some sleeves. I wonder if he has a staff memeber that cuts them out of all his shirts. Just wondering.
8:43 am
They were talking about Elton on my Christian radio station this morning on how he would like to see Religion banned.
Because of his lifestyle so much hateful things have been said to him. I don’t agree with his lifestyle, I think it is sin. But so many “religion” people have said so many hurtful things towards a persons sin (can you blame them for hating religion). Am I sticking up for Elton? Heck, no. And I agree with your freedom of speech 100%.
But I am looking a bit deeper in WHY he said what he said, and it makes me sad. Just thinking outloud here.
9:25 am
Oh, this cracked me up! I’m with you on all accounts too! I don’t care for any of them.
One that often seems to get people all riled up is that I’ve never liked Prince or(enter symbol), The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, Tafkap, The Artist…whatever you want to call him. I never got the whole Purple Rain following.
9:30 am
I’m still with you on Elton John and Jessica. Never really thought about the sleeve thing but it cracked me up. I do like Kenny’s music, and also Madonna, although I don’t care for her personal life. She’s fun to dance to.
Sting, eh. I can take him or leave him. I sing along when it’s on the radio but I never turn it on of my own accord.
10:03 am
I was with you until Kenny Chesney, though I do agree he needs some sleeves. But the man can sing!
10:38 am
Wait…Jessica Simpson? You mean that chick on the magazine covers in the checkout lanes at Giant? She sings?
Apparently she acts, too. Turns out she’s in a movie that’s out soon (or already? can’t keep ‘em straight).
Who knew? I thought her career had to do with getting on magazine covers…
10:39 am
LOL. I wish I had something intelligent to add, but since I don’t, I’ll sit over here lmao.
10:41 am
This whole thing is cracking me up!!
11:15 am
Oh,HM, you had me until the Sting bit. Next time we meet, I’ll explain him to you, Kels, because the man is a poet and a brilliant performer.
If you need me, I’ll be covering my ears and LALALALAing with Jeana – to the tune of De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da of course.
You go girl! It’s your blog and you can dislike whoever you choose to not like. Indulge away.
11:21 am
Madonna is past her sell-by-date – she has re-invented herself to pure boredom. Bow out gracefully old dear. You’re trying too hard.
Give me Nat King Cole any day!
And Billy, and Richey – probably an age thing! But there is melody and emotion xxxxxxxxxx
11:30 am
I am sorry I just can’t stand by without saying something here about sleeve-a-phobia, this is a debilitating affliction that many suffer from. Kenny has done much for the cause of the sleeve-a-phobic no longer do they have to hide at home in shame because people will point and laugh at their frayed, sleevless once was a real shirt ensemble. No Kenny has paved the way for sleeve-a-phobics everywhere to proudly display their tatooed arms in open public, and we should all respect that, or at least not point and laugh while they are still looking.
12:27 pm
Kenny Chesney is the cheesiest person to ever walk the face of the earth and I’m saying that after watching Mario Lopez every week on Dancing with The Stars.
2:15 pm
This all TOO FUNNY! We definitely have different tastes in music, but…
now stop reading right here if you’re easily offended…
SO WHAT!!!!!!
Good for you, and your bad, semi-loudmouthed self! Keep it coming, Kelsey. 8^)
3:33 pm
i hate all the ppl you just listed as well…they all prolly have like 1 song i like…but i defintly can not stand jessica simpson…stupid texan
4:20 pm
I liked Madonna in the 80s, back when we rode around in Trans Ams with T-tops — but she’s gone WAY too far now.
5:35 pm
Hee, hee! This post just CRACKED ME UP! But you neglected to tell us where you stand on Billy Ray? We know that you like his hair and all, but did his stint as the “Doc” turn you off?
5:51 pm
C’mon Kelsey, you don’t have to be gentle around us! Tell us how you really feel.
Ha! Quite a rant, but if I’d been posted and abused on an EJ page, I think I might rant a little too. ;’)
*name with-held in case they are reading this too*
7:42 am
I think I must have warped over into the Barry Manilow blog or something. Lump him with Billy Joel and it’s the dynamic-less duo. But it’s better than rap.
Madonna’s got enough issues to sink a battle ship.
Elton writes brilliant stuff.
I’m thinking it’s really good that there’s plenty of music out there to suit even the most unsophisticated of tastes.
But what do I know? I’m just a stupid Texan.
8:54 am
Go Shalee, you sing De do do do, I’ll sing the E-OH-oh’s.
And I find it interesting that someone who uses “ppl” and “prolly” and has apparently never heard of capitalization would call Texans stupid. Perhaps in her state those spellings are signs of intelligence?
10:21 am
Just a short note to say I love You Kelsey.
Mike
10:50 am
No, no, no… You are only allowed to DISLIKE those who you are TOLD to dislike by people like Madonna, Elton John, The Dixie Chicks, etc. THEY are the arbiters of taste, morals (lack thereof?), and all things religous. Didn’t you know that???
As a side note, I’m totally linking you. Mainly because I just read this ONE post and have found a kindred spirit.
7:41 pm
Awww how sweet that in the midst of all this music drama Holymama’s DH drops in an I Love You;)
He’s a keeper Kelsey.
8:21 pm
What a visual I had as you blogged all the nah nah’s. I like music, but I’ve never felt a deep feeling for any one musician’s writings.
My daughter is a C&W fan and I have actually found a couple of songs I even like but I don’t know the name of the songs. Oh well, I can still listen.
A little country goes a long way with me, but then so does too much of any kind of music.
8:22 pm
Well, after this post, I had to go back to the previous one and see what inspired it; who it was that got all riled up about your musical tastes. That was quite an educational experience. Apparently I’ve been in a coma since I was 5 years old. That or I’m “just plain old stupid”. Oh well. I guess I’ll just hang out with all you “stupid Texans”, ’cause frankly if the people writing these comments are examples of smart, I’d rather be stupid.
I do have to join Jeana and Shalee in their defense of Sting. Brilliant musician and lyricist. You, of course, are free to exercise your right to abstain from listening to him, but as for me, I think I’ll go pull up “10 Summoners Tales” on iTunes now.
7:10 am
Elton John’s music is okay…sometimes. I do have his “Duets” CD and I enjoy that.
I liked Madonna in the 80s-90s, I don’t pay her much mind now.
Personally I don’t think Jessica Simpson is all that pretty..only from one or two angles is she, if the shot has been fixed (since I don’t think they airbrush anymore?) And no, she can’t sing – her voice has been synthesized.
Kenny Chesney…heard of, not a big country fan.
And I don’t give a flying flip about anybody’s lifestyles/issues and I wish the media would have some class and just stick to their music and move on….
11:33 am
Couldn’t agree more… All three of those people are HIGH up on my “can-barely-stand-looking-at-them; don’t-want-to-hear-them-sing” list. =)
3:18 pm
LOL. I don’t care for mr John either.
8:47 am
Love Elton & Sting. Not Madonna or Jessica. Like some of Kenny’s music, and like looking at his arms almost as much as he does.
But you know what? You can hate them all if you want to. And you can tell the world if you want to. I’ll still love you. Even if I don’t completely understand.
That’s why it’s called _personal_ taste.
11:21 pm
Girl, you really know how to stir up the hornets’ nest! LOL!
Not an Elton John fan at all…
Not even a little bit of a Madonna fan…she has gone too far. Grow old gracefully, Madonna…your kids are watching you for crying out loud.
Sting? Well, I do like “Every Breath You Take”…but that’s pretty much it.
I cracked up when I read what you said about Kenny Chesney! LOL! I just made a comment about his sleeveless attire to my husband a few nights ago. It’s a silly thing, but the no sleeve thing has always been weird to me. To each his own, I guess.
You’re a riot Kelsey!
