Now THAT’S romantic…

I’m doing a little better, y’all. I got so many very sweet, concerned comments and emails from those of you who know what it is like to need that postpartum drug cocktail, and then for it to not work. But as you also know – because you’ve been there – I read them and thought nice things and didn’t reply at all because, well, that’s kinda how it feels to be where I am right now. Like everything in the world is a whole lot harder than it really is. Thank you. I might come back to those soon and reply with questions, or i might shrug, sigh, and wonder where the diet coke is because really, caffeine should help.

i looked for five minutes tonight before finding the diet coke. i KNEW i’d seen mike carry it in, but it was nowhere to be seen. i gave up searching and stood at the top of the basement stairs, asking him what he did with it. You know where it was? In the fridge. Of course. i hadn’t looked THERE.

Tonight we were walking through a dark parking lot at Hobby Lobby, looking at a beautiful big moon overhead. Mike said something that sounded very romantic. Much like, "Good pick, honeymoon…"

I, intrigued, asked him what he said, since I’d obviously heard it wrong.

He said something that sounded like, "good pick, Honey, man."

Less romantic, but still… intriguing. (And no, I’m not having trouble hearing. We had three tired and loud little boys with us.)

I stopped, asked him to say it loudly, and then regretted it.

Mike said, "GOOD PIG-HUNTIN’ MOON!"

Ew. He occasionally hunts nocturnal wild pigs, and yes – the moonlight would be advantageous for that.

I made a face and told him that wasn’t romantic AT ALL, which of course made no sense to him until i explained what I thought I"d heard him say. Which didn’t make any sense either, but at least it didn’t refer to the moonlit slaughtering of swine. Again, ew.

So we got the kids in the car, and he came over and dipped me dramatically in his arms, planted a big kiss on my lips, slapped me on the butt and asked if THAT was romantic.  Um, NO. That was funny and weird, but whatever. Thanks for the effort.

What WAS romantic…?  He went with me to Hobby Lobby because I had a 40% off coupon that was about to expire, and it was the last night of 50% off all scrapbooking supplies. We went up and down all the aisles I wanted to see, slowly, and he kept up with all the kids and didn’t seem to mind a bit. Now THAT is romantic.  what a man! sigh….

Lost ‘Soles’

have you ever been driving down the street and seen a random shoe lying in the road? i see that a LOT. why? why are there a relatively large number of lost shoes in the streets? isn’t that weird? usually it’s a kid’s shoe or a man’s shoe, rarely a woman’s. ahem, I’ll just leave that statement on its own. And if I’m on Shoe Lookout, i can sometimes see 5 in a week. If anyone understands this phenomenon, please enlighten me.
