I love it! I used to listen to Delilah religiously in college. Now, just once in a while in the car. Hooray for sappy cheezy '80s music!

Personally, I like a few Elton John songs. My favorite is "Blessed" but I haven't heard it in years.

And, "I'm Every Woman" is fun once in a while, too. Like in the movie Bridget Jones's Diary.

I love this post! Total stream of consciousness.

What I want to know is do you hate Elton John music or just that horrid Circle of Life song? Because I can't stand Elton John's music but people always look at me like I'm an alien when I say that.

Same with that other guy. You know Billy something. The piano man. "You may be right...I may be crazy." Ugh, why can't I think of his name?

And now you're thinking "Duh! Billy _______" But I can't think of it!

Oh yeah, that and now I've got that song running through your head. Sorry.

I'll let my freak flag fly and admit to listening to Delilah. Yes I will. I used to play my old Eric Carmen LP when I was in the mood for a little face down in the carpet type of music. That's not so weird, right?

I hate to admit this but I know the words to that Elton song and you're singing it right. I can't believe I just said that out loud!

I like Dililah once in a while and listen. Actually the night Jeff and I got engaged I called in to share it with the world and they played a song for us!!

How about this? At work the other day a group of us (all women and one poor horrified guy, who abstained thank you ver much) broke into song, and that song was... from The Little Mermaid. A bunch of impassioned museum dorks, singing,

Look at this stuff,
Isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think
my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl,
Girl who has
Everything.

While flinging (museum jargon for 'carefully packing') objects into boxes and moving them around the place.

Yeah. Right up there with you in the dorkihood, sister. Maybe it's genetic.

This reminds me that I realized the other day in the grocery store that the worst song EV-AH is some sappy chick singing this:

Torn between two lovers,
feelin' like a fool,
lovin' both of them
is breakin' all the rules...

I swear I wanted to stick a fondu fork in my ear. HOW did that song ever get on the radio? Stupidest song ever, even for the 70s. Give me Lionel or Elton any day over that.

Personally, I think there are some things that are more clearly said with a double negative, like the example you gave. There is a subtle difference between not being incomplete and being complete -- maybe not so subtle. Nuances of meaning are lost without being to phrase things this way.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. My husband suffers from double-negative deafness, being unable to hear or understand anything that's phrased in such a way.

:)
