Blogging from the Treadmill

Did you know you can do that?

You can. If you have a laptop, a treadmill, a dog walking on the treadmill, and you’re really there just in case you have to hit the emergency stop button in case something goes terribly wrong. Which never happens. Duke is a trooper.

I am sooooo sore today. Yesterday my trainer – Workout Barbie – concocted some seriously fantastic potion of exercises which resulted in my barely being able to move my legs today. gah. I’m constantly stretching out those muscles in the front of my thighs because ow. ow. ow.

and no. they are not called ‘quads.’ or quadriceps, or whatever else. They are just the muscles on the front my my thighs. ‘Quads,’ or ‘quadriceps’ sound like something that football players would have. They sound big and ugly and not like anything i’d want.

Incidentally, i feel that way about a lot of technical names for body parts, but i won’t go into that now. not that I have any of them. Just like I don’t have quads either.

Ow.

I wonder if Duke’s ‘quads’ are going to hurt tomorrow?!

For the most part I agree about the technical names. Although I do like ‘phalanges’. That’s a good one.

Why am I picturing the male ‘member’ when you say “I feel that way about a lot of technical names for body parts, but I won’t go into that now. not that I have any of them.”

See, I didn’t even use the technical name. Aren’t you proud of me?

Yeah, and I seriously need to work on those muscles in the front of my thighs because my summer shorts are all laugh with fear when I threaten to put them on… Sigh. This will not be a pretty sight.

Can I come be your dog and have you force me onto the treadmill too? That may be the only way I actually start exercising again.

I’m jealous of your workout Barbie. I’m fortunate to have a treadmill at home that we got for free. And I use it. But I need someone to show me how to tone up my whole body. And I know I could get a video, but how does the video know I am not just sitting on posterior laughing at it?

My muscles are sore too! My friend B, whom I work out with, is not a personal trainer, but the way she works me she oughta be!

I prefer reading on the elliptical. It’s the only time I actually get to read!!!

The question is, does the pain make you feel some sick sense of athletic accomplishment, a sense that makes you want to go back to workout barbie and see what else she has up her sleeve?

If the answer is “yes” I’m afraid you need to start calling them quads.
