Yeah, I just don't get it. Just like I don't get WHY on Saturday and Sunday my 3 kids are up WITHOUT prompting from me - at 6:30 AM - while on school days I drag them out of bed with shouts and threats at 7:15AM!

Mine can fall asleep through my awful singing in the car, but one little whisper at home wakes him up! I can't believe I haven't thought of rolling the windows down. I'll try that next time. thanks!

Oh, I hear you. This is why my almost-2yr-old boy and I do not ever leave the house after about 11:00 am. Because if we're driving home anywhere around 12:00, those loooong blinks show up. And then, like you, I must start playing with the windows. Even when it was 17 degrees outside. Anything, to keep him awake, to preserve that precious naptime.

And why is it that a parent can't have that same experience? Can you imagine...close your eyes briefly, drift off for a mere 3 minutes and bam! You are refreshed and rejuvenated to stay up all night with the baby.

What a nightmare it is! We start playing "I Spy" as soon as their eyes start to roll into their little heads.

I feel your pain. I do my best to avoid car napping, but sometimes it is unavoidable.

Both of my boys followed this crazy pattern. I don't know WHY!!??!!
I know a woman who did a lot of babysitting. When she'd take her day care kids out to run errands, she kept a spray bottle in the car. If the kids started dozing, she would squirt them in the face. I've never had the heart to do that, though!

Oh, I do the exact same thing. The boy seems to think that if he sleeps in the car then he can play with mommy all afternoon.

It's one of the things the nurses whisper in their ears before they are discharged from the hospital at birth. These are the nuggets that are wickedly planted in the cherub's brains before they are released to us:

1. Do the car nap thing just to irritate the snot out of your parents.
2. When mom gets on the phone, begin pulling at her shirt tail, smearing chocolate pudding into the rug, or pouring your own milk from the jug. There are other activities which also work to meet this particular objective. These are only suggestions.
3. When dining out, choose from one of these diversionary tactics:
a. announce loudly that you need to go poop
b. throw spaghetti on the floor or into the hair of the old lady at the next table
c. cry. cry. cry some more.

It's a conspiracy, like I mentioned. Evil.
