Transalation: Haven’t been blogging since I had that ‘number lock’ thing on and couldn’t get it off. I hoped that if I typed ‘Help, I have my num lock on and can’t turn it off’ into google, that someone would have provided a helpful bloggy tip to the so afflicted. But no. So I decided I would be that kind person, should I ever determine how to escape. Turning on and off the computer did not work. Pushing shift + all the function keys did not work, or ALT + function keys. Anyway. It’s one of those at the top of the keyboard. Helpful, huh? Seth-2yr likes to remove my keys, and sometimes they get found and put back on in new places so I’m pretty sure that the key that ACTUALLY works to solve this on my computer is not the key that it should be. Whatever.
No one else will probably ever have need to google such a post as this, but here it is anyway. The Good Samaritan post for geniuses like me who can’t figure out their num lock. You’re welcome. Have a lovely day. You’ve overdosed on numbers and surely are frustrated with them by now. Enjoy an extra vowel or two.
Updated: Y’all, be sure to check comment section. There are LOADS of people just like you every day who find this post, and add their own tips on how to fix this.

oh dear. SANNAA, I will try to get someone smarter than I am to decode and will send help asap.
FYI, “someone smarter than I am” is my sister or my mother. Whoever responds first.

[...] anyone very tech-y is reading, could you please just click HERE and help a person in need? It’s an old post from the time when I got my num lock stuck and, [...]
1:37 pm
Oooooh no. Don’t look at me. I’m bookmarking this post so that I don’t ever have to hurt my brain looking for ways to unlock the scary number codes when they invade my laptop. All I got out of poor Sannaa’s message was “Please help” (although in my head, because of the number code, I hear a pitiful little voice saying “Peese hep! Peese hep!”). I’m sending positive thoughts and feeling otherwise fairly useless.
9:53 pm
Sannaa’s message decoded:
“Help me pleaseee! I beg you my microsoft numbers changed dont no what a fn button or scroll lock button of anything please help me now my microsoft has locked itself as well please help me A.S.A.P.”
I don’t know if I can help you, though, Sanna. Are you using a laptop? Are you using an external keyboard with it? Do you have keys labelled with any of the following: “fn” or “Scr Lk” or “Num Lk” or “Ins”?
Give us more info and maybe somebody can help you.

Hey!!
what do you know!
It only took me 6 min to work it out with your help!
Thank you.
This is what I did for those of you who read every blog and still were clueless as I was (I won’t be suprised if I am alone in this – ha ha) but here goes.
I have a Presario laptop.
My scroll lock button/ num lk button is on a 2nd function.
To access the 2nd function ‘FN’ button on my laptop is located at the second from bottom left (next to left ‘cntrl’ key).
***Hold down the ‘fn’ button and press the highlighted scroll/num lk key to disarm.***
A good indication of the number lock button being a second function button (as in you need to press the ‘fn’ button to access these functions) are when they are bracketed. *triple sigh – I am feeling so clever (not)*
Brilliant site! It saved me hours of trying to find where I store the manual (probably left it in another country to boot) and hours of reading. Thank you Holy mama!
Tania
*quadrupal sigh*

Obviously different computers have different settings so don’t get give up. This blog gave me a starting point to try and figure out which combination of keys to get my computer free.
On the hp EliteBook 8440p and hold down the ctrl alt then hit scroll/numlk key and you’ll be free.
Thanks for creating this blog otherwise I wouldn’t have had a clue where to start.
1:11 pm
Thank so much for this. My baby whacked all the buttons and i thought OMG it’s wrecked!! I typed how to fix in google and had a good laugh at all the posts and the fact that i could actually figure out what was suppose to be written lol.
Thanks Sarah no24 worked for me x
5:34 pm
So I tried everything on this blog but nothing worked but I decided to give it one more try before I gave up. Just go to start, program, accessories, on-screen keyboard and push the numlock button there and that solves the prob well it did for me anyway! thank god…….
6:11 am
Thank-you – today you are my angel!
7:15 pm
Thanks for the blog and thank you commentors! “fn” button plus the num lk key worked like a charm. Cheers
12:01 am
okay, so i have a laptop and you have 2 press the FN button, and for everyone that couldnt find tat button (like me) its by your space bar on the left. its in a square.
4:54 am
ok if, like me, none of the above worked, try shift F11 or ctrl F11 or alt gr F11 — one of them worked on my laptop but I don’t know which because I tried all of them one after another! x
1:05 pm
thank you!!!! 3 year old attacked my laptop; this worked!
Alt + Num Lk.
3:55 pm
Thank you so much! You really are helping so many people, you’ve basically saved several lives! Sleep happily!

LOL you’re a lifesaver once again!!! i was just about to freak out when i randomly typed this on google. thanks for saving me time
and for those still struggling, fn (a key on the keyboard…for my lappy it’s a button saying Fn in blue color and it’s at the bottom of the keyboard) + Numlock or NumLk (which is on the top of my keyboard) does the trick. Some of you guys might just have to press numlock button.
10:19 am
