BYOW (bring your own wasabi)

I like my sushi without pickled ginger, wasabi,  cucumbers, or crab. And if you lived nearby and liked it that way too, then that would be SO great because I kinda always make too much* and no one around these parts likes sushi.

Although Seth-5yr will always try it and then grimace and smile and say, “uh, thank YOU,” and “that was so good but I don’t think I want another bite.”

But isn’t it pretty?

That’s yellowtail tuna from last week. The pics of last night’s various sockeye salmon sushi items didn’t turn out very well. But, YUM.

* “kinda always make too much”  directly translates to, “am brand new at this thanks to studying youtube how-to videos and calling my stepmother with all my sushi making questions, but when I DO get my sushi on, it is always in too large quantities for just me. and Seth-5yr’s one polite bite. and the cat, who suddenly loves my cooking.”

I’ve never been a fan of sushi, but it always looks pretty on the plate! I think even Seth would beat me out on this, I just can’t even take one good-mannered bite.

Glad you are having fun learning how to make it.

Mother T,
I don’t really know why he goes through with it. Especially after he completely freaked out when he learned i ordered the salmon online. “YOU BOUGHT FISH THROUGH THE MAIL? THAT’S A BAD IDEA. OH!!! YUCK!!!! NO, MOM, THAT’S YUCKY!” And yet he still feels obligated to try. I don’t understand it, but I do appreciate the effort. : ) My mom tried a piece last night, too!
i really can’t cook. But sushi isn’t cooking – it’s assembling and slicing and it’s sort of peaceful.

I’m so glad you enjoy sushi enough to actually make it yourself. But here on the lake, we call that bait.

I’m glad you like sushi… you can have mine :o ) I don’t eat any seafood at all.

My one year old just saw this picture and said “bite” so maybe he’s a fan!

I like your definition of it as peaceful assembling. Very zen.

Also, Jan’s definition of it as bait. Hilarious.

Seth is a brave young man.

Wow! I am so impressed that you have taken on this challenge. You do the thing with the little mat that makes the nice neat roll? I would eat those leftovers in a heartbeat.

Once I was on an important sales call with a big tough guy. We stopped for lunch at a sushi bar, and he puked all the way home. First timer, big sissy.

I love some kinds of sushi and have found some restaurants that are willing to make it to my specifications (no icky sauce, no wasabi among others). A friend tried to teach me to make my own…and that would be perfect cause it can be exactly how you like it. But you need patience, which I don’t have!
I think I’d eat yours but it might not taste good by the time it gets here, even via Fed Ex. :)
